Achievements were added to the Steam release of Amnesia: The Dark Descent on January 16, 2017, after a brief public beta starting on January 13.

The achievements mirror the Trophies that were added with the release of Amnesia: Collection on the PS4 November 22, 2016. Amnesia: Collection was also released for the Xbox One on September 28, 2018.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent has 18 achievements, all of which are secret achievements except for three ("Illuminatus", "Master Archivist", and "Insanity"). Twelve of the achievements are for the main campaign, four are for Amnesia: Justine, and two span both campaigns.

Pipeworkertrophy Pipeworker TDD: Lowered the water level in the cistern to reveal a new way out in Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Restorertrophy Restorer TDD: Collected the pieces of the orb and rebuilt it in Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Survivortrophy Survivor TDD: Killed Alexander and escaped the castle in Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Sacrificetrophy Sacrifice TDD: Allowed Alexander to escape in Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Nopetrophy NOPE TDD: Left when things were getting interesting in Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Achieved by exiting to the menu at any point in the Rainy Hall or Old Archives.
Quittertrophy Quitter TDD: Failed to escape the cells and was consumed by the Shadow in Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Masochist Masochist TDD: My name is... Daniel... and I... have made life... exceptionally hard for myself.

Egotisttrophy Egotist Jus: Not a single victim survived in Amnesia: Justine.

Masterarchivisttrophy Master Archivist All: Read all notes in all games. Achieved by picking up all notes in both The Dark Descent and Justine.
Insanitytrophy Insanity All: Achieved all other achievements. Achieved by getting all other 17 achievements.

Trivia[]

  • Amnesia: The Bunker has the second-most unmissable story achievements of any game in the series, as it's theoretically possible to complete the game with a minimum number of 7 necessary achievements.
    • Amnesia: Rebirth has the most unmissable story achievements, at 22 (19 unmissable achievements, plus one out of two torture-related options, plus one out of three ending options). Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs has the absolute fewest at 5 necessary achievements, followed by Amnesia: The Dark Descent with the second-fewest at 6 necessary achievements (five story-related, plus any one of three possible ending achievements).
    • Amnesia: Justine technically has fewer necessary achievements, at precisely 1 necessary achievement upon completion (any one of three possible ending achievements), but Justine is a side campaign DLC and so would not count if restricted to "full-length" games. Thus its achievements are usually combined with The Dark Descent.
  • Analyzing achievements as a proportion of the total (adding the Justine achievements to those of The Dark Descent), 39% of the game's achievements are unmissable.
    • This ranks it roughly in the middle of the series for proprotions of achievements being unmissable—A Machine for Pigs is first proportionately with 71% of it achievements being unmissable, then Rebirth second at 54% unmissable achievements, and The Bunker is last at 17% unmissable achievements.
